8 Sports to Practise With Our Dog
If you've always liked doing sport, why not do it together with your dog? You might not have known it, but there are dozens of sports we can practise with our dog.
Something that will keep us fit, but that will also help keep our dog's mind and body healthy. Since they need to release energy daily to feel fulfilled.
These are the most common canine sports — take a look and pick the one you like most!!
Agility
Without doubt, this is one of the most beneficial sporting disciplines for boosting our dog's health and physical condition. Among its countless advantages are:
- Boosting their level of concentration
- Making them far more obedient
- Working on physical and mental health at the same time
It's ideal for every breed regardless of size, though obviously we should never push them.
What's more, if we have enough space at home, such as a small garden, we can build a small course to give our dog a great time while they exercise.
Dog Doing Agility
Canicross
One of the main drawbacks of this dog sport is that it requires proper physical fitness on both sides, dog and human. All you need is a specific canicross harness and some free time.
Our recommendation is to spend enough time choosing a suitable belt, to avoid back discomfort from any sudden tugs.
Once you have one, you can go running with your dog on whatever surface you prefer and enjoy this highly healthy exercise together.
Disc Dog
Very similar to the traditional lure game, this sport is very easy to practise. All you need is one of the many flying discs, also known as frisbees, on the market, which you use as a lure with your dog.
This is one of the most beneficial canine sporting disciplines for every type of dog, though especially those showing hyperactivity problems.
Its benefits are countless, such as developing your dog's ability to keep their attention while having fun, or even the option of adding more flying discs, gradually increasing their obedience level.

Doga
Want to enjoy a far more balanced dog? Doga started in the United States and is a great choice for doing sport with your dog while working towards this tricky goal.
It's a combination of the popular Yoga practice, but one you can do alongside your dog, while improving their wellbeing in a healthy, fun way. It's fantastic for any dog showing problems such as anxiety or stress, achieving noticeable improvement through this simple exercise.
Dog Dancing
Does your dog love choreography? Another trendy sporting option that has a lot to do with music. With a bit of good music you can help your dog feel far more relaxed while doing this sporting activity alongside you.
All it takes is putting together fun musical routines lasting on average between 2 and 6 minutes. One of the main advantages of this sport is that it lets you strengthen your emotional bond with your dog.
Herding
This dog sport is closely related to more traditional activities such as herding livestock. Although it's a fairly little-known sport compared with others, it lets our dogs develop a great many skills.
It has a major drawback, since it needs a fairly large stretch of land to be practised. Even so, in some parts of Spain, such as the Basque Country, it's quite well known and this sport is fairly common.
Dog Swimming
Mantrailing
Among the most widespread canine sports is precisely mantrailing. Its countless advantages, such as improving your dog's scent-tracking development, which can be applied for various purposes such as searching for missing people, justify this interest.
It's an exercise that needs fairly high precision depending on the search being carried out, and other skills such as speed, but it can be trained. Based on our experience, it's suitable for every dog, great fun, and helps improve dogs' scent-tracking abilities.
Swimming
Is your dog fascinated by water activities? A highly recommendable option for any dog who loves water is precisely swimming. Even so, bear in mind that not every dog likes contact with water.
Swimming is known to be one of the most rewarding sport options to do with your dog, since it lets them exercise fully and lowers the chance of problems arising from being overweight, among many other advantages.
