Can a Dog Eat Pineapple?
Many of us, besides giving our dog its daily food ration, add some treat like fresh, healthy fruit.
Pineapple is among the foods a dog can eat, though always being careful not to overdo it, since it could cause diarrhea. Let's take a detailed look at how to give our dog this delicious fruit and what its benefits are.
Can I Give Pineapple to My Dog?
Pineapple (also known as Ananas comosus) is one of the fruits dogs can eat, so nothing bad happens if our dog eats some pineapple. It's best if we cut it ourselves, removing the core and outer skin, and give the pineapple in pieces. Preferably fresh.
Pineapple should never be our dog's main food source, but a natural fiber and vitamin supplement. It's not recommended for pineapple to make up more than 10% of our dog's diet.
We can give our dog a small portion of pineapple daily, if we want. It's recommended to start with a small piece and watch that it doesn't upset it.

Benefits of Pineapple for Dogs
Pineapple is a fruit with many benefits for dogs, possibly one of the most recommended fruits thanks to its properties.
Pineapple's main beneficial properties are:
- Pineapple is anti-cancer, since it interferes with the development of malignant cells, preventing metastasis in several types of cancer.
- Pineapple is an excellent source of vitamins C, A, B1, and folic acid, strengthening our dog's immune system. It's also rich in minerals such as potassium.
- Pineapple is an excellent digestive aid, since it contains bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins into amino acids. It stimulates gastric juice secretion, allowing for lighter digestion.
- Pineapple is anti-diarrheal, preventing the proliferation of harmful bacteria in the intestine (as long as taken in appropriate doses).
- Pineapple will help keep our dog hydrated, since it contains 85% water.

Did You Know... It's Used as a Home Remedy?
Many dogs, for various reasons, end up eating their own feces, something known as coprophagia. Obviously it's a bad habit, and also quite unhealthy.
There are no scientific studies proving this, but it's always been said that pineapple is an excellent home remedy to prevent dogs from eating their feces. In other words, it helps prevent this bad habit.
We just need to add a piece of pineapple daily to our dog's food, and within a few weeks, supposedly, it will stop being interested in feces. As mentioned, this isn't scientifically proven, but it seems to work in some dogs.
