The Most Refreshing Fruits for Dogs in Summer
With this summer's heat waves arriving, it's our dogs, by far, who have the hardest time. That's why at Soyunperro we want to offer you some refreshing, hydrating, healthy ideas for your dog's natural diet.
Don't miss: Fruits dogs can eat
Watermelon, Our Great Ally
It's not that they like it — they love it!! Though always in moderation to prevent it from upsetting them. Nice and cool but not frozen, and always with no seeds.
It's best to cut it into small pieces to prevent choking, and serve it gradually, with our own hand for example, so they don't wolf it down all at once and enjoy it more.
Its vitamins and minerals (vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, magnesium.....) are great for their health, but without a doubt the best thing is the amount of hydration it provides, since watermelon is 95% water.
Melon, Refreshing and Delicious
Just like with watermelon, melon provides many vitamins and minerals such as A, B, C, and E, as well as calcium, iron, and potassium. We should serve it cold but not frozen, and always with no seeds.
It's also best to cut it into small cubes to prevent choking. With 92% water, melon is another hydrating, refreshing fruit we can use alongside our dog's natural food or as a snack.
Pears, But.....
Pears are another great fruit we can use to cool off our dog during these hot months but.... with no core, meaning no part where the seeds are.
Cutting them into pieces is also the best option. They provide vitamins A, B, C, and K, as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, and magnesium. More than 80% of a pear is water, making it an ideal fruit for hydrating them as well as nourishing them completely naturally.
Bananas, Packed With Energy
Another one of dogs' favorite fruits is bananas, with a high content of potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus, as well as vitamins such as A, B, and carotenes. While it's true they don't have a large water percentage, if given nice and cool, they'll be a treat for them and an extra source of energy within their natural diet.
Blueberries, the Perfect Treats
Although quite small, they contain great antioxidant power, which will help keep our dogs' health in much better shape. They're not just used as a natural supplement in their diet, but also, thanks to their small size, they're the perfect treats if we're training our dog.
Nice and cool, they're even tastier, but always in moderation, since too much fiber can make our dog's stomach more sensitive.
Can I Mix Fruits With Its Natural Food?
Of course you can, since Dogfy Diet's natural food is also hydrated food, so there won't be any problem with its digestion. In fact, we can mix it with its food, or give it as dessert, or simply mid-afternoon as a snack to cool it off a bit — any option is good as long as we use them with moderation.
What we mean is it's not advisable to give your dog two kilos of watermelon a day... unless it's an 80-kilo Great Dane of course, haha. Always in moderation, to prevent overeating.
Can I Make Ice Cream With Fruit?
It's an option, but remember ice cream can sometimes make their tummy a bit loose, from the cold (diarrhea). Also, to prevent choking, it's best to mix mashed fruit with water and make one large ice pop it can't chew or swallow, only lick — this way it will stay entertained while enjoying it safely.
